Remote Access, Offsite Solutions and Business Continuity
If you can’t physically access your office or business, can you and your team continue to work and operate your business normally or close to normally?
If your current technology infrastructure keeps you localized to your physical office and your business operations cease without physical access, it’s time to make the necessary investments and upgrades.
Granted, not all businesses and business operations will work without physical access; however, for those business which can operate remotely (whether in whole or in part) it’s important to take proactive steps to ensure the technology infrastructure exists today so you can switch over at a moment’s notice.
As part of a business continuity plan, you’ll want an infrastructure which supports options like remote access, work from home or work from anywhere, not to mention offsite data storage, backup, and data redundancy so you can keep running even if you can’t access your physical office space.
Beyond physical access, also consider factors like power outages and loss of Internet access and how that may impact your business especially if your key systems are stored in-house. If possible, consider migrating some or all key systems to hosted or cloud-based solutions supported by reputable service providers with quality service level agreements (SLAs). This will make you less reliant on a physical space and afford more freedom to work from anywhere and access from anywhere at any time.
Even a brief shutdown can be potentially devastating to a small business. Plan and budget accordingly and proactively make the critical investments in your infrastructure.
