Use Cash Back and Reward Points for Business Essentials
Accruing cash back or reward points on your business credit or corporate card?
Well, don’t forget to use them towards future business purchases.
First and foremost, be sure to choose a business credit or corporate card that aligns best with your business needs.
For startups and small businesses, ones with no annual fee and cash back rewards are typically a good starting point. Cash back rewards can be redeemed as a statement credit and with some cards (like the American Express Blue Business Cash Card), the monthly cash back rewards are automatically posted as a statement credit each period (no manual redemption needed).
If reward points are better suited for your needs, go with them but don’t forget to periodically redeem those points too for business purchases.
Granted, you’ll often need to accrue a significant amount of points to use towards large ticket items, but credit card companies can change the points redemption policies too so don’t rely solely on using those points for large ticket items.
If points can be used for business essentials, use them (you’ve already earned them, and they won’t do much good sitting in your business credit card account).
It should go without saying, but always worth mentioning, that business credit and corporate cards are intended to be used for legitimate business purchases (it’s usually stated in the T&Cs).
Don’t use your business credit or corporate card for personal expenses!
