Before You Update Or Upgrade To The Latest Software - Part 1

While you may feel inclined to update/upgrade software as soon as it’s released/available, you’ll want to exercise proper due care especially when updating/upgrading software on live production workstations for your business.

Software updates/upgrades may offer many benefits including new features, improved performance and functionality, bug and security fixes & patches and so forth. However, as much as you’ll want to take advantage of all the benefits, you’ll also want to make sure those software updates/upgrades fully support and are compatible with existing hardware and other software that you use and which may be critical to your business operations.

Imagine updating/upgrading to the latest version of an operating system and realizing your accounting software does not work properly or if you’re a creative agency and update to the latest version of your creative software for some users but realize other users don’t have the updated hardware requirements to support the new software. Now your agency has some creative users on the latest version and some on an older version. May not sound like a big deal until you realize users working in the older versions cannot access files or features created in the newer version of the software and cannot collaborate and/or work on shared projects with the rest of the team.
