Running Windows On Apple Silicon-based Macs
Need to run Windows on an Apple Silicon-based Mac?
If you have a Mac with M1, M1 Pro or M1 Max, you can’t use Boot Camp as Apple does not support Boot Camp on M1.
However, you can use virtualization software like Parallels Desktop (license purchase required) to install and run Windows. Virtualization software allows you to run Windows in a virtual environment without having to leave macOS. You can easily move back-and-forth between macOS and Windows.
Microsoft does not currently license an ARM-based version of Windows; however, you can download a beta version of an ARM-based version of Windows through the Windows Insider Program. You must register for the program first (it’s free to register).
Keep in mind the ARM-based version of Windows available through the Windows Insider Program is beta software. Use at your own risk!
Beta software should be used for testing or evaluation purposes only and is not intended for use in live production environments and/or on key/critical systems.
