Windows Security App Will Not Launch After Upgrading To Windows 11
If you recently upgraded your Windows PC from Windows 10 to Windows 11 and cannot launch the Windows Security app (ex: you click on the Windows Security icon in the taskbar and nothing happens; you right-click Windows Security to try to open View notification options or View security dashboard and are prompted to search the Microsoft Store for an app to open the options), you can try resetting the Windows Security app to its original settings by using the Reset-AppxPackage cmdlet.
Here's what you need to do:
In Windows Search, start typing PowerShell
When Windows PowerShell (app) comes up in the search, select Run as administrator from the right-column
A User Account Control message window will display asking Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device? Click Yes
A Windows PowerShell terminal window will display. Make sure the header says Administrator: Windows PowerShell. If it just says Windows PowerShell, you are not running Windows PowerShell as an administrator. Close the terminal window and repeat the steps above.
In the Administrator: Windows PowerShell terminal window, type in or copy and paste the following command at the command prompt: Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.SecHealthUI -AllUsers | Reset-AppxPackage
Press Enter on your keyboard. You should get a new command prompt. If you get an error, check to make sure the command is entered exactly as indicated.
Type Exit on your keyboard. The Windows PowerShell terminal window should close.
Try launching the Windows Security app to see if the Reset-AppxPackage cmdlet resolved the issue
As a reminder, ALWAYS perform a backup of your computer before installing or upgrading to a new operating system. Also, routinely backup your computer to external local and/or cloud storage.
